A Note From the Editors

To Our Readers,

As the last year of the ‘naughts decade comes to a close, Beyond the Margins continues to see many changes, especially the graduation of the last founding members of the magazine. The staff of Beyond the Margins wishes our friends and fellow editors the very best as they move towards new horizons and opportunities. We hope that this publication continues to cultivate the community of young scholars and writers that our alumni helped create within the English Department. Likewise, the staff of Beyond the Margins hopes that we will deliver an ever-evolving literary and artistic experience to Western Connecticut State University and beyond.

We would like to thank the many new contributors for submitting their work to Beyond the Margins and allowing us to publish a Fall-semester issue for the first time in our brief history. Our Managing Editor sincerely hopes that this Fall 2009 Issue adventure does not prove the end of him. Next year, Beyond the Margins hopes to deliver a print collection of our past issues, incorporate new forms into our publication, and give our much-beloved website a bit of a makeover.

In a scholastic and economic age where the matter of finances often trumps the need for an on-campus intellectual discourse and the sharing of one’s imagination, and the incentive to maintain campus publications has been a matter of some debate, Beyond the Margins would like to reiterate the value of having a variety of voices, perspectives, and thoughts permeate the folds of WCSU’s academic life. We are proud to be one of Western Connecticut State University’s many quality publication; we will continue to endure baked goods of questionable quality and the risks of caffeine addiction in our firm commitment to produce this magazine.
